3Delight uses standard Maya's lights with the exception of the Environment Light which is 3Delight-specific (ambient light is not supported).  To these standard Maya lights, 3Delight adds some additional controls (e.g. exposure, light focus, ...) in the 3Delight section of each light. The following section lists attributes that are common to all supported light sources. Attributes specific to each light are listed in their own pages.

A Note About Sampling

You will notice that there are no sampling parameters for light source in 3Delight (as there are none for materials too). The unique sampling parameter is defined in the render settings and acts on all shading components, including lights.

Common Attributes

All lights share a set of common attributes to control exposure, diffuse contribution and specular contribution.

Common 3Delight-specific attributes for all Maya lights.

Exposure

This is an additional control over standard light's intensity. Exposure is in many cases the a preferred control due to it's likeness to photography. Final area light intensity is then computed:

I = intensity * pow(2, exposure)

Diffuse Contribution

Attenuates light source intensity for diffuse rays.

Specular Contribution

Attenuates light source intensity for specular rays.
