3Delight for Softimage can render Softimage's curves and there is no limitation on curve's shape or degree. The default behaviour is to not render curves so that existing scenes render exactly as in Softimage's internal renderer. To enable curves' rendering:

  1. Select the desired curve and create a 3Delight object property (see section Object Properties).
  2. In the properties, enable the Render Curves toggle that is part of the Geometry tab.
  3. Select an appropriate width for the root and the tip of the curve.

Please note the following:

  • Curves are rendered using a 3Delight primitive that is meant to render thin curves. Rendering thick curves is better done using NURB surfaces.
  • Since Softimage will not let you assign materials to curve geometry, the only option is to assign RenderMan shaders (see section RenderMan Shader Properties). To get you started, an example shader is provided in Writing Shaders for Softimage Curves.
